Creativity Key to Better Retirement

However, an American specialist on the subject said that retirement can also be a creative time - a period of renewal and rejuvenation. "Most people never fully prepare for this abrupt change. Organizations do not help them. "Exile is the cradle of nationality," according to Michael Higgins, Ireland's former minister of arts, culture and the Gaeltacht. We should "presuppose a sort of dialogue among exiles" who are together in a new place. Viewing ageing as "exile" offers a new (and positive) perspective about exile and ageing - one that can lead to older people better understanding their common "nationality" of what it means to be fully human - to be part of a greater whole.
