Deere to hire 300 workers a year to replace retirees
[27 January 2004 - Miami Herald - from Davenport, Iowa, USA] Deere & Co. will hire about 300 workers a year over the next five years to replace hundreds of employees who will retire at its four Quad-Cities manufacturing plants, company officials said Monday. A team of management, United Auto Workers Union representatives and plant employees will be responsible for an extensive recruiting effort. "Exile is the cradle of nationality," according to Michael Higgins, Ireland's former minister of arts, culture and the Gaeltacht. We should "presuppose a sort of dialogue among exiles" who are together in a new place. Viewing ageing as "exile" offers a new (and positive) perspective about exile and ageing - one that can lead to older people better understanding their common "nationality" of what it means to be fully human - to be part of a greater whole.
